Meet the equine team

Learn more about our knowledgeable equine veterinary team, who cater to all kinds of horses, ponies and donkeys.

John Dickerson

Clinical Director

MA VetMB CertEP CertEM(StudMed) MRCVS

John graduated from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1996. He joined Chine House in 1997 after a period doing research supervised by Professor Twink Allen at the Equine Fertility Unit in Newmarket. He gained his certificates in Equine Practice in 2003 and in Equine Medicine (Stud Medicine) in 2009. His main interest continues to be studwork, particularly artificial insemination, and he is also in overall charge of equine anaesthesia at the practice.

Jonathan Garratt

Clinical Director

BVetMed CertEP MRCVS

Jonathan graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2004. He joined Chine House shortly afterwards and enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work. Jonathan gained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice in 2012 and was added to The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons register of Advanced Veterinary Practitioners in 2015.

Lewis Smith

Clinical Director

BVetMed CertES(Orth) DESTS DipECVS FRCVS

Lewis qualified from the Royal Veterinary college in 2006. He has a particular skill set in surgery for young stock and has also spent 10+ years performing overground endoscopy and airway surgery. RCVS certificate in equine orthopaedics, a European College of Veterinary Surgeons diploma in large animal surgery. He is one of 6 holders in the UK of the RCVS diploma of equine soft tissue surgery.

Simon Turner

Senior Clinical Associate

BVSc MRCVS

Simon graduated from the University of Bristol in 1989. After qualifying he worked in the army for 6 years. He served at The King’s Troop RHA,St John’s Wood, Northern Ireland and at the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray. In 1995 he joined Chine House and developed the equine surgical facilities at the new hospital site in Sileby. His main work interests are equine surgery and dentistry.

Kyle Black

Senior Clinical Associate

BVSc MRCVS

Kyle qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and spent two and a half years in a mixed practice and then two years in an equine practice in Lancashire. New Zealand was his next stop before moving to Australia in early 2012 where he specialised in equine practice. Kyle has a particular interest in lameness diagnostics, imaging and poor performance in relation to the equine athlete. Kyle has been regularly working with the thoroughbred trainers in and around Melbourne.

Lucile Creis

Senior Clinical Associate

MVSc BVSc MRCVS

Lucile graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990. She first worked at a racetrack practice in Randwick for 3 1/2 years before completing a residency in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Sydney. The title of her Masters Thesis was “Wound Healing in Horses”. A couple of years in the Republic of Ireland followed before she joined Chine House in 2000.

Natalie Young

Veterinary Surgeon

BVetMed MRCVS

Natalie graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2015. She completed a 2-year internship at Newmarket Equine Hospital and a 3-year surgical residency at the Royal Veterinary College. She has also spent time working in ambulatory practice in Northumberland and racetrack practice in Australia. She enjoys all aspects of equine surgery and particularly enjoys working with the equine athlete. 

Lucy Chapman

Veterinary Surgeon

BVM BVS MRCVS

Lucy graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2019 and immediately joined Chine House for a 12 month internship. On completing the internship in 2021 she moved to Staffordshire before returning to Chine House in 2022. Lucy enjoys many aspects of equine medicine with a particular interest in lameness and poor performance. Outside of work Lucy enjoys riding and competing her horse Barney.

Christopher Christie

Veterinary Surgeon

BVSc MRCVS

Chris graduated from Liverpool University in 2020, soon after joining Chine House as intern, and since then he has continued on as an ambulatory vet. He is currently enjoying all aspects of general practice, with a particular interest in orthopaedics. Outside of work he is usually found in and around Leicestershire, exploring the outdoors.

Charlotte Jones

Veterinary Surgeon

BVSc MRCVS

Charlotte graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2024 and then completed an internship within the hospital at Chine House. Following this she joined the ambulatory team and has enjoyed exploring the Leicestershire countryside. She has a strong interest in lameness and poor performance. Outside of work she enjoys training and eventing with her horse Fred.
